Emma currently serves as the Senior Assistant Conductor at the award-winning Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC), where she develops programming and conducts children ages 8-18 across YPC’s Performance, Community, and Schools Chorus programs. Since joining the YPC team in 2017, Emma has taught choral music in public schools and community centers throughout New York City; conducted on stages including Lincoln Center, the United Palace, and the Apollo Theater; and rehearsed YPC’s after-school choirs for recordings and performances with many of today’s leading ensembles and composers including David Lang, Paola Prestini, Ellen Reid, and Julia Wolfe. Most recently, she prepared the children’s chorus for the Metropolitan Opera’s productions of “Dead Man Walking” and “El Niño.”
Prior to her work at YPC, Emma studied conducting with Jeffrey Douma during her undergrad at Yale and worked as a Teaching Artist with the Yale Music in Schools Initiative’s Children’s Choirs, under the leadership of Stephanie Tubiolo. Emma has studied conducting with Francisco J. Núñez, Elizabeth Núñez, Jeffrey Douma, Gary Fagin, and Doreen Rao.
